About Tidefront

Naval war in pixel art, from ships of the line to missile cruisers. Refight Trafalgar, Tsushima, Jutland and Midway.

Tidefront is a naval strategy game in 2.5D pixel art. Zoom out to move whole fleets in formation, or zoom in and take the helm of a single ship.

Historical battles let you refight eight real engagements with the real ships on either side: Trafalgar, Hampton Roads, Lissa, Tsushima, the River Plate, Jutland, Midway and the Falklands. Sailing ships fight the wind and fire broadsides, ironclads ram, dreadnoughts drop plunging shells onto thin decks, carriers strike from over the horizon, submarines hide until sonar finds them, and missiles have to get past point defence. Battered sailing ships strike their colours and become your prizes.

Conquest is a territory game inspired by OpenFront. Port cities earn gold and slowly push your border inland, forts hold the land around them, and shipyards build your navy. Research takes you from the age of sail to ironclads, dreadnoughts and the missile age. Hold 70% of the land to win.

Both modes can be played online: open a room, share the code and play against friends, or on the same side against the computer.

Version 1.1.0 · what’s new

  1. v1.1.0Current1h ago

    - New: online multiplayer. Open a room from Play online, share the code, and play a historical battle (one side each, or several players sharing a fleet) or a game of Conquest against each other and computer nations. Needs a RingStack account. - If you drop out or reload, rejoin the room and the game catches up to where everyone else is. - Computer admirals now screen their carriers at Midway and the Falklands instead of charging the enemy fleet. - Torpedo bombers drop bombs on shore targets. - Ships push apart more in close fighting, so they overlap less.

  2. v1.0.01h ago

    - First release. - Historical battles: Trafalgar, Hampton Roads, Lissa, Tsushima, River Plate, Jutland, Midway and the Falklands, playable from either side. - Conquest: port cities, shipyards and forts on a random map against up to 14 computer nations, with four eras of ships to research. - 34 ship classes from sloops and 74s to Aegis destroyers, supercarriers and nuclear submarines. - Fleet orders when zoomed out (line ahead, abreast, wedge, loose); direct helm control of single ships when zoomed in. - Wind and tacking, firing arcs, armour and penetration, fires and flooding, ramming, torpedoes, submarines and sonar, carrier air strikes, missiles and point defence, prizes, fog of war.
